Measurement of Local Pulse Wave Velocity on Aorta for Noninvasive Diagnosis of Arteriosclerosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Small vibrations are simultaneously measured at two adjacent points on the aortic wall near the aortic valve by electronically alternating the directions of the ultrasonic beam. The transit delay time of the pulse wave between these two points is determined from two vibration signals obtained by this alternation beam method. The local pulse wave velocity at several millimeters on the aorta is precisely o b tained by dividing the distance between these points by the resultant transit delay time. These local acoustic properties of the blood vessel will be very useful especially for noninvasive diagnosis of the early stage of arteriosclerosis. In vivo measurement of regional and local pulse-wave velocity in mice with MRI at 17.6 T
Mouse models are increasingly used to investigate functional and cardiovascular parameters. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is an important parameter for the evaluation of the arterial and cardiovascular risk. Several diseases such as hypertension and arteriosclerosis are associated with vascular abnormalities and arterial stiffening. In this work we present two different methods to noninvasively exa...
متن کاملAssessment of Arterial Stiffness Using the Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index.
BACKGROUND Arterial stiffness is an independent predictor of outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease. Although measurement of pulse wave velocity is a widely accepted, noninvasive approach for the assessment of arterial stiffness, its accuracy is affected by changes in blood pressure. SUMMARY The cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is an index of the overall stiffness of the artery f...

Introduction: Mouse models are increasingly used to investigate functional cardiovascular parameters. Pulse-wave velocity (PWV) is an important parameter for the evaluation of the arterial stiffness and cardiovascular risk. Several diseases such as hypertension and arteriosclerosis are associated with vascular remodeling and arterial stiffening. MRI methods have been used to quantify PWV in the...
متن کاملIn vivo MR measurement of arterial pulse pressure in the murine aorta
Introduction: Mouse models are increasingly used to investigate functional and cardiovascular parameters. Measurements of blood flow patterns, vessel wall strain and pulse wave velocity have been used for the evaluation of the arterial function and cardiovascular risk [1]. However noninvasive methods for measuring hemodynamic parameters such as blood pressure are not yet available. In this work...
متن کاملSimulated Pulse Wave Imaging for Local Stiffness Estimation in Patient–specific Aortas with Phantom Validation
Background: The aortic stiffness has widely been reported as an independent indicator of all–cause mortality and cardiovascular diseases. Traditional methods for measuring arterial stiffness in vivo involve either invasive procedures or provide a global average estimate. An attractive alternative for noninvasive estimation of local arterial stiffness is based on pulse wave imaging (PWI), a meth...
